Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012: Stacy Lewis ties for the 19th position in first round
American Stacy Lewis, who is eyeing the top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, displayed an average performance in the first round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, as she tied for the 19th
position along with fifteen other contenders.
Lewis kicked off the tournament, being played at Pinnacle Country Club, Rogers, in a far better style as compared to her archrival Yani Tseng.  However, the American star could not live up to the expectations
of her fans, as she remained outside the top 10.
Tseng is standing tied for the 76th spot after she recorded a woeful 73.
On the other hand, the 27-year-old Yank looked pretty confident when she teed off her round. However, due to miscalculation on some holes, she could not improve her leaderboard score.
Lewis looked a little shocked when she bogeyed the second hole. However, the next hole, which is the most difficult one, proved lucky for the rising star as she shot her first birdie.
She then parred the next five holes and drained her second birdie on the par-4 9th. On the back nine, she recorded one birdie and one bogey.
Speaking to the media a day before the tournament, Lewis said that she has now become more perfect when it comes to handling pressure. She said that when she comes face to face against rivals, her first concern
is to stay calm.
“I would say I think for me it's something about getting in contention, I've finally figured it out, and I've figured out how to handle the pressure and how to hit shots down the stretch when you really need
to and how to manage your game,” the world number two said.
“Last week I had a bad first round but I still found a way to get it done and still was in contention on the weekend.  Every time it's different, and I feel like I've learned something every week”.
It remains to be seen how Lewis is going to fare against rivals in the next three rounds, however, she will try to avoid making lousy strokes to remain in contention.
Commentators said that the result of the first round has reflected that it is not easy for big names to inflict a defeat on underdogs.
Rookie Veronica Felibert, who belongs to Venezuela, registered a stunning 65 to seize a first-round lead.
