  1. Fact: It is c**p in a bag.  There are so many better brands of dog food, like, Wellness or Eagle Pack.

  2. fact 1: the first 5 ingredients are FILLERS no meat

"Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat, corn syrup, poultry fat"

and soybean meal...dogs can't have soy! nor should they have corn, an allergen to dogs. and dogs don't need corn syrup or wheat.

fact 2: there is NO specific meat source. there are only "meat-byproduct". that meat byproduct was probably your next door's shelter or laboratory testing facilities dead cats, dogs and the usual roadkill.

  3. Ol' Roy is c**p. I feed my Beagle Orijen as the 1stingredients listed are: all meat then veggies and fruit and NO GRAINS. The dog food is 70% protein, 30% fruits & veggies and NO GRAINS.

  4. please read the ingredients.just too much fillers, too much grain in there!there are other dog foods available at wal-mart.

Read through the ingredient list, compare them.Check to see if there are preservatives in the food:BHA, BHT,Ethoxiquin=all bad!

more meat=better! No corn, no soybean,no peanut hulls!

  5. Bad, bad, bad.....please don't do that to your dog, go to a reputable pet store & buy a good food. Read the labels....you don't want fillers like, wheat, corn, rice bran or any by- products...

  6. This food is one of the worst food on the market.  They have had so many recalls that I'm shocked people still buy it for their dog to eat.

Just google Old roy and see exactly how bad it is.

You could feed your dog dirt and it would be about the same neuitricional value as O'Roy!

  7. I do think it's a pretty good brand. My grandmother feeds her dogs this brand, however I feed my dogs Beneful. I did feed ol' roy dog bisquits to our dogs when they were puppies...and they loved it.

Are you feeding this to your dog now? Or going to be switching? If you are switching, do it gradually. Mix with old dog food for about a week, adding more of the new brand dog food and less of the older brand.

    Hope this helps..

    -Hannah

  8. I have heard not so good ratings for this dog food.  Take a look at the ingredients.  If by-products, glutens, and grains (rice, corn, etc) are on the list, I'd say no way for my dog.  Most dog food that you can get at a store such as Wal-mart is not the best.  We feed our dog Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul.  I would say only feed your dog this if you cannot afford a better quality food, such as Chicken Soup, Wellness, etc.  Good luck

  9. this isn't a high quality food. it has a lot of fats and fillers in it-chicken guts etc. you want to buy something like iams.walmart carries iams. its not always the most affordable, but it is better than ol roy. if i were you and iams was out of my budget, i would get pedigree food. walmart also carries that. its a higher quality food.

i used to have a dalmatian that had the worst coat condition, i put him on nutro max lamb and rice formula and the red spots down by his male area cleared up in 3 days and his coat looked so much better. but i could not keep that up forever, it is expensive! just get the best you can afford. your dog knows you love him! hope that helped!

  10. well id have to ask that with another question..whats everyones opinion on on del monte, heinz, menu foods (they also make certain flavors of eukanuba, hills science), sunshine mills, and purina? SURPRISE! guess who makes certain flavors of old roy and special kitty (walmart brand cat food)? yep those companies  make certain flavors of it and all we do is let them put our brand name and sell it in our stores.the same goes for kmart, meijher, target and any other store brand name i havent mentioned.as far as what i use its usually purina beneful...but only because my vet recommended it after i told him i couldnt afford hills science diet.

  11. Ol' Roy is like garbage pressed into kibble form. It is one of the worst brands available.

BTW: any food that has corn syrup is bad. That's sugar added to make the dogs appear to like the food.

  12. Here are the ingredients of IL' Roy:

Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat, corn syrup, poultry fat, Meat and bone meal (Animal Fat Preserved with BHA and Citric Acid), Chicken by-product Meal, Rice, Animal Digest, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Vitamin D and E Supplement, Niacin, Copper Sulafate, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Meadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex Source of Vitamin K, Calcium Iodate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Cobalt Carbonate, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite, Folic Acid

Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat are all grain & are known allergens in dogs. Dog food ingredients are listed in order of weight. The ingredients before the first listing of fat comprise the vast majority of the food. As you can see there is no meat in this product - dogs are members of the order carnivora meaning that they need a diet consisting of prey animals.

The corn syrup is an unnecessary ingredient it is added to the food to make the dog want to eat it. A food with a high meat content is naturally appetizing to dogs. Diets high in sugar have been known to cause obesity, increase risk of cancers, cause yeast infections, cause tooth decay, diabetes - and of course all the problems that go along with these conditions! There have also been studies indicating that high sugar diets contribute to many behavior problems. Several schools for troubled children have outright banned sugar - and have seen a positive effect.

Meat and bone meal is not from a named meat source - menaing it can come from ANYTHING accordign to the AAFCO standards. 4 D cattle, roadkill, euthanised pets from animal shelters, etc.

BHA is a perservative that has been proven carcinogenic in animal experiments & is banned in many countries (not the US) because the danger.

Meadione Sodium Bisulfite has been BANNED for use in over the counter (human) products because of it's high toxicity. It causes cytotoxicity in liver cells, causes hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia, considerably weakens the immune system, has possible mutagenic effects, & is directly toxic in high doses.

Now consider dogs are eating this stuff EVERY DAY and are constantly being exposed to all those nasties.
