Walter Johnson discussion??

Walter Johnson had a dead ball era of: 1.66. He had a live ball era of: 3.45. His era the last year of dead ball: 1.49, the first full year of live ball: 3.51. In 1920 he was 33 years old, so it could be a natural decline, but it's a pretty dramatic increase in era. If he pitched only in the live ball era, do you think he would be as legendary as he is now?

You're kidding,right?An ERA these days of 3.45 would make him a number 1 starter on any team you pick.What were the circumstances leading to his "pretty dramatic increase in era"?Babe Ruth pitched in the dead ball as well and he had a World Series record that stood for quite a long time.Would Cy Young have 511 wins in today's game?Would there even be a Cy Young Award?Don't try to compare players of different eras,it doesn't work very well.Kids of today never heard of the dominant players of 20 years ago,let alone 80 years ago.

probably, someone as unique as him would be well known no matter what era, the fact of the matter is that he dominated during the time he played and used what he could, anyone who could totally own an era like that will be legendary no matter what equipment he used

His numbers would be tremendous. You can't compare though pictures from different eras.

My guess. With better conditioning and sports medicine as well as better defense ehind him the Big Train would put up HOF numbers still. His wisn would be down because he'd pitch way less but his losses would also go down
