The Partenopei boss ruing the stalemate against Bologna, and demands improvement from the Azzurri...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 manager, Walter Mazzarri, believes that his side needs to learn a lot before becoming a great team.
The Azzurri were held to their seventh draw of the season, as they played a 1-1 stalemate at Stadio San Paolo on Monday, January 16th, 2012. The draw came as a hammer blow to their chances of finishing among the top
three, as they now drift third place, Udinese, by seven points.
Mazzarri insists that his side played below par against Stefano Pioli’s men. The tactician has urged his team to step up their game if they are to grow in the future. The former Sampdoria boss also lamented at the playing conditions,
and believes that they were not suitable for his team’s playing style.
Despite qualifying for the last 16 round of the UEFA Champions League, Mazzarri believes that his side is not yet great, and there is still a lot of work to do.
While talking to the reporters, Mazzarri insisted,
“We had a lot of players who were below par. The pitch didn’t help either. The team wasn’t very lucid and sometimes we want to attack so much that we then lose our balance. We are not a great team yet, we have to understand that
and grow. It’s true that we have beaten Manchester City this season, but that was a real miracle.”
The 50-year-old also praised the Rossoblu for putting up a brave fight against his team, and insists that they played positive football and deserved to take a point away from San Paolo. The manager also rued the missed opportunities
and has urged his attackers to be more clinical in-front of the goal.
“More often than not, teams who come to the Stadio San Paolo defend in an exaggerated manner – playing for two results out of three. A few incidents also went against us today. Take Marek Hamsik who missed in front of the goalkeeper.”
Midfielder, Marek Hamsik, spurned a lovely opportunity to take the lead after he missed from an open goal.
Napoli remain 6th in the league table.
