Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, has hailed his team’s performances in 2011, and believes that the Azzurri performed beyond the expectations.
Mazzarri believes that qualification in the UEFA Champions League will remain the highlight of the year for his side, and he is hoping to continue the same momentum in the New Year. The tactician praised his entire squad and the
coaching staff for ensuring success.
While talking to the reporters, Mazzarri said,
“A memorable year comes to an end that was beyond our rosiest expectations. With third place in Serie A, reaching the Champions League and qualifying for the last 16. I thank everyone, as the lads showed great effort and hard work,
whether contributing on the field or in the locker room.”
The former Sampdoria boss revealed that the win over Manchester City in the Champions League was one of the best moments of the year for him. The Azzurri emerged victorious by 2-1, and Mazzarri believes that his side proved that
they can match the top teams in Europe. The 50-year-old also hailed his team’s 3-0 win over domestic rivals, Inter Milan.
“It would be unfair to point to one game or even just one moment. I prefer to talk about all we did to reach the first Champions League game at Manchester City, where we proved that we belonged there and could play on a par with
the richest football clubs in the world. Was it the perfect game? It doesn’t exist, though I must say the 3-0 win away to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 was pretty close.”
Mazzarri also praised the fans for their support, and believes that they deserved special credit for the success. He admitted that the fans were always there for the team during their ups and downs.
The manager is hoping to continue the same form in 2012, and believes that they are entering 2012 on the right track.
