Walter Mazzarri not satisfied with a draw and expected a second goal from his team: UCL news
Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, is not happy with his team’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League debut at the Etihad Stadium on September, 14th, 2011.
Mazzarri is ruing the missed chances and believes that his team could have scored more goals had the luck been on their side. The Partenopei took the lead when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandar-Kolarov-c4475’s direct free-kick effort six minutes later.
The manager admitted that his team started nervously and could have conceded an early goal but his players overcame the nerves as the game progressed. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 were denied a winner when Marek Hamsik’s brilliant volleyed effort hit the woodwork and Mazzarri believes that his team should have scored the second goal.
The former Sampdoria manager believes that his team should have controlled the tempo of the game more effectively and is hoping for an improved performance from them in the future games.
Talking to the reporters Mazzarri said, “We started too anxious and were fortunate not to concede in the first half, but the tension left and we played the way we know how, probably deserving a second goal. We started to get cocky and tried to shoot from 30 metres, that was the real regret.”
“If you don’t take your chances in a stadium like this, then you can risk defeat, as we did with free kicks and giving the ball away in midfield. We are perfectionists and always want to control the tempo, which we didn’t do in the first half.”
The Italian has urged his players to learn from their mistakes as quickly as possible as they have some really tough games lined-up in the near future. The Azzurri will host Italian Champions, A.C Milan this weekend and after that they will play Villarreal in Europe.
Napoli won their first league game 3-1 against Cesena last weekend.
