Walter Mazzarri has sidelined all rumours of his resignation from Napoli, stating that he is committed to the club for at least one more season.
The former Sampdoria manager has been linked with a move away from the Partenopei at the end of the summer, but the manager dismissed all such talks as worthless rumours.
The Azzurri chief revealed that his contract with the club transcends to 2013, and he does not intends to leave the club before that time.
While talking to the press, the Partenopei tactician said:
“I have a contract at this club until 2013 and I will respect it.”
Napoli have had a memorable season under the leadership of Mazzarri, after they reached the last 16 round of the UEFA Champions League, and also qualified for the Coppa Italia final.
However, the club’s domestic run has seen a slip in the form of the Naples outfit, having lost their last two Serie A fixtures against Juventus and Lazio respectively. The result has placed the club six points behind third-placed
Lazio, in the sprint to clinch the final UEFA Champions league qualification spot in the league.
The Partenopei coach insisted that the team is united to push for the crucial spot right until the end. He insisted that their performance against the capital club was excellent, and their failure could only be attributed to their
failing fortune in Serie A.
The tactician insisted that the team were aware that with their European commitments, the league was going to be tough nut to crack for the club. However, he believes that the Azzurri’s overall performance should be taken into
account, before issuing a critical verdict on their performance.
“We knew that the campaign would be tough with our Champions League commitments, but you have to judge us over all three competitions.”
Mazzarri insisted that despite the ups and downs, the season has been the one of growth for the club, and insisted that even though they aim to win all the games, they never claimed to finish third in the season.
