The Azzurri manager urges his players to remain focused, and admits to slide in Serie A form due to Champions League commitments...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 manager, Walter Mazzarri, has hailed his team’s 3-1 win over Palermo at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Sunday, January 8th, 2012.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabrizio-Miccoli-c13236, scored the only goal for the visitors.
The Partenopei side have struggled to match the likes of A.C Milan and Juventus in the league, and find themselves ten points adrift of the leaders. However, Mazzarri believes that they are moving in the right direction, and has
urged his men to continue the good work. The tactician is delighted with two successive wins, but he wants his team to show further improvement.
The former Sampdoria manager admitted that UEFA Champions League participation has hampered his team’s progress in the league. He has urged his men to take full advantage of the European break, and focus on the league duties.
Mazzarri hailed his team’s second-half performance against Palermo, but he has demanded more concentration from the defenders. The manager believes that his team lost their focus in the middle periods of the game, and they could
have gone 3-0 up much sooner.
“This term the Champions League took a lot of energy out of us, but now we’ve got to focus and continue to improve. Up until we went 2-0 up there were risks of an equaliser. We have got to be more concentrated in defence. The second
half performance was excellent and now let’s keeps going. I worry that we can get a little complacent and we should’ve played earlier the way we did when 3-0 up.”
The 50-year-old believes that his team has grown a lot in the last two years, and has urged them to continue working in the same way.
“For the past two seasons we have done extraordinary things. We’ve got to carry on along this path. This team has grown so much in just two years.”
Napoli remain 7th in the league table after picking up 27 points from 17 matches played thus far.
