The AS Roma sporting director highlights the concerns he had with the attacking department, and cites it as the major reason to sign the former Chelsea star.

AS Roma sporting director, Walter Sabatini, has explained the reasons behind the signing of Fabio Borini from Parma in the summer transfer window.
Shedding light on the signing, the director has revealed that he was concerned with the strike department at Stadio Olimpico Rome, and wanted to add extra cover in the attack.
While talking to the reporters, Sabatini said:
“I was concerned about our attacking department in the summer. I was uncomfortable because I knew that our forward options needed enriching further.”
Borini’s signing has proved to be fruitful so far, as the 20-year-old struck his sixth goal of the season in the 1-0 win over Parma recently.
Although still very young and blooming, the striker has switched several clubs in his fledgling career. The Italian national has previously played in England in his stints with Chelsea and Swansea City.
Sabatini has explained that the choice of the young striker was in no way a haphazard selection, as they had been monitoring the youngster for some time.
“I knew Borini really well as a player because I had also followed him closely while he was at Swansea.”
Roma co-own Borini with Parma, and they might exercise the option of purchasing the full rights of the youngster in the summer.
The Italian U-21 star has established himself as a mainstay in the Giallorossi setup, and is a first-team starter in a three-pronged attack alongside Francesco Totti and Pablo Osvaldo.
With Totti unavailable for Roma’s next game against Atalanta, La Maggica fans will once again pin their hopes on the youngster to step up and guide the capital side to an important win.
Borini’s winner at the weekend has put Roma in the 5th spot in the Serie A standings, and their chances of sealing UEFA Champions League qualification remain alive.
