Walter Smith will wait on Steven Davis
Rangers manager Walter Smith will wait to see if Steven Davis is fit for the Champions League tie against Bursaspor on Wednesday before he picks his team.
Davis limped off 15 minutes from the end of the Rangers 3-2 victory against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. The player was substituted after he felt tightness in his hamstring. The Rangers manager withdrew Davis so as not to aggravate an injury that may leave the
Ibrox player out of the squad for four to six weeks.
Smith said, "Steven came off before any serious damage but it's still a major concern to us. We'll just have to see how it is over the next couple of days. Steven will hopefully feel he is fully recovered."
The Rangers manager also spoke of the Northern Ireland player’s importance to the club. "He has started to play very well for us by his own standards, which are very high. His level of consistency since he has come to us has been terrific. I felt he was
having his best game at Aberdeen when we had to take him off."
Davis has proven to be a pivotal player for Rangers in central midfield and it would come as a blow if the player was not able to feature in what will be a crucial game for Rangers in Group C of the Champions League.
Smith has also got worries over Steven Whittaker, James Beattie and John Fleck. Whittaker had to be replaced after a clash of heads in the game with Aberdeen. He is likely to play.
Beattie and Fleck are less likely to feature. Beattie took a bang to his hip while Fleck has a hamstring injury.
The manager was confident that his side will prove to be a difficult team to beat in this seasons Champions League and added; "There's a good determination about them and, if they lose a game, it won't be through lack of effort in any way, shape or form."
