Walthamstow Dogs update: L&Q not satisfied

The current owners of the Walthamstow site, London and Quadrant, have confirmed that an offer from millionaire businessman Bob Morton was made on Thursday, but have stated that the bid falls short of expectations for a "viable proposal".

An L&Q spokeswoman said in the Waltham Forest Guardian: “L&Q has received contact from Mr Morton in regards to a leisure/housing development for the Walthamstow Greyhound Stadium site.

"At this stage, the correspondence does not contain enough detail for us to be able to offer proper comment on the viability of the scheme or otherwise.

“We have replied promptly and in full to Mr Morton, with our initial assessment of his plans and the extra detail required to be able to conduct a full and frank appraisal of them.

"We have also made it clear that the correspondence we have received has a very considerable way to go in meeting our expectations of a viable proposal.
"Until we receive full disclosure of financial backing and clarity over a number of logistical and administrative issues, then we are unable to comment any further."

L&Q says it will be pressing ahead with its plans for the site with newly appointed Architects’ Conran and Partners.

The spokeswoman added: "As part of this process, we will embark on a consultation programme with local residents to ensure our plans represent the best future for the site and for the community at large.

"It is our intention that full design details and a submission to the council’s planning department will be completed by the end of the year.”
