Wan Ho Shon crushes Jacob Malieka to enter into Men’s Singles second round at World Championships
Korea’s Wan Ho Shon surged into the Men’s Singles second round after thrashing South Africa’s Jacob Malieka in the opening round of the 2011 World Championships, on Monday, August 8, at the Wembley Arena in London.
Wan Ho proved his superior skills in the first match against Malieka, who was not playing at his best. The Korean reserved the court for only 27 minutes to chuck out his opponent in a straight-set contest.
Wan Ho, who is standing at the 23rd spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings, played to his maximum skills and spared no chance for his opponent to put up any resistance in the match. The Korean was moving in the court with great speed and his
powerful strokes destroyed the defence of Malieka, who failed to cope up with the speed of the higher ranked Korean.
The Korean opened his journey in the first-round match by playing a fast game, as he kept his challenger moving in all corners of the court. His deceptive strokes disturbed the flow of his opponent in the whole match, as he remained guessing about the destination
of the bird. The Korean was in a great flow and reached at 11-6 until the break.
After the break, the Korean progressed with the same pace by playing an aggressive game. His fast, deceptive, straight and cross-court drop shots helped him in creating a gap in his opponent’s court and he perfectly executed powerful smashes. He won the
opening set of this first round match with a big difference of 21-12, in just 15 minutes.
The crowd witnessed Wan Ho playing a fascinating game in the second set of the battle, as he proved his supremacy in the game by dominating the entire set with great skill.
Wan Ho remained miles ahead of Malieka in the whole set and won it by a stunning score of 21-8, in just 12 minutes. This 27-minute Men’s Singles opening round contest ended with a 21-12 and 21-8 score on the board.
