Wanderlei Silva vs Chung Le – MMA Preview: UFC 139
The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) 139 will continue on Saturday, November 19, 2011 with two tough fighters looking to kick and punch their way ahead.
Chung Le, making his official debut at the UFC 139 event, would try his best to keep standing against Wanderlei Silva. Both fighters have been aggressive in nature and proved to be worthy opponents inside the UFC ring.
Their mixed martial arts (MMA) career has been without an UFC heavyweight belt, and they would be looking forward to keep winning their matches to secure a chance to fight for the championship.
In July 2011, 35-year old Silva had a nightmare of a match when Chris Leben knocked him out in just twenty-seven minutes. Silva would try to avoid that from happening again when he faces the 39-year old Cung Li, a mixed martial arts and kickboxing fighter from Vietnam.
Li, nicknamed ‘The Human Highlight Reel’ has won only seven matches in his MMA career and lost one match. On the other hand, Wanderlei Silva, known as ‘The Axe Murderer’ in the UFC ring, has won thirty-three matches, lost eleven and one match went into a draw.
In February 2010, Silva made his successful middleweight debut against Cypriot Michael Bisping at UFC 110, contested in Australia.
Silva would have an advantage over Li for he has experienced more fights than the Vietnamese fighter has. Where Silva has won more matches than Li, it is Li having a higher success rate with his submissions and takedowns. Silva as a 29% success rate with his submission moves while Li has a 33% success rate with his submission manoeuvres. Li also has a 33% takedown rate while Silva only has a 23% success rate.
The Brazilian fighter would have to watch out for Li’s takedown capability, for he can make Silva lose vertical base and crash him on the mat. Li too, would be keeping an eye on Silva’s striking ability as he has a 48% success rate with his strikes, which are powerful enough to halt Li’s momentum.
Wanderlei Silva will use his strong punches and tough thigh muscles to put Li on the defensive while Li would use his agility to counter Silva’s moves.
Chung Li, who won his debut Strikeforce Middleweight Championship against Frank Shamrock in March 2008, would be hopeful to create an impact against Silva.
