Wang Lin crushes Susan Egelstaff in qualifying round of the Singapore Open Super Series 2011
China’s Wang Lin has ousted Scotland’s Susan Egelstaff in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, being held in Singapore, on Tuesday, June 14.
The Chinese, who is currently the World Number 64, spent just 27 minutes in the court to tame the World Number 37, Egelstaff, in a straight-set match.
In the opening set of the game, the Chinese was ahead of the Scottish player in the whole set. Lin proved that despite her lower ranking in the Women’s Singles category, she has attained a certain level of skills and is ready to shine at the world stage.
Until the interval of the opening set, Wang was clearly leading the game by an 11-7 difference. Egelstaff tried to lift the level of her play, but she failed to perform well against the spirited Chinese, who was not sparing any chance for her to get back
into the contest.
Egelstaff put up a good show in the concluding phase of the opening set, but it was too late as the Chinese finished up the game by a 21-15 margin in just 15 minutes.
The second game was quite interesting, as both ladies were close to each other until the Chinese took a one-point lead at 5-4. Egelstaff made some errors at this stage, allowing Lin to build a comfortable advantage of 9-4.
Wang Lin was playing with ease and he did not face any significant resistance from the Scottish shuttler. He surged to 11-5 at the end of the opening half.
After the interval, the Chinese stretched her lead by playing planned badminton. She was in no hurry to finish the rallies by playing unconventional strokes. The smart play of the Chinese helped her in creating gaps in the court of her opponent, who was
not playing at a good speed.
Wang finished the second set by playing top-class badminton with a wonderful difference of 21-10, in just 12 minutes. The 27-minute qualifying round battle ended with a 21-15 and 21-10 margin.
