Wang Shixian casts Saina Nehwal out of Women’s Singles event of 2013 Swiss Open
China’s Wang Shixian stretched her winning streak in the Women’s Singles event of the Swiss Open and secured a final match berth on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
She locked horns with the Indian badminton queen Saina Nehwal and this semi-final encounter remained in full swing for 50 minutes in the local badminton arena of Basel.
The match kept swinging between contenders until the third set and it concluded with decisive figures of 21-11, 10-21 and 21-9.
Initially, the Chinese campaigner raised her chances of success by winning the opening game but then Saina brought life back into the match with a staggering knock in the following game.
The first set of match started with a couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders made every effort to gain an early advantage.
However, Wang Shixian prevailed in a couple of consecutive rallies and managed to make a significant difference on the points table.
She maintained that upper hand and placed a decent total before the announcement of the one-minute break. After the interval, Wang Shixian played impeccable badminton and widened the gap on the points table.
She did not allow her rival to come out of the deficit and swept the table with an impressive score of 21-11.
Saina Nehwal did not lose heart after this blow and turned her opponent’s plan of a straight-set victory into dust.
At first, she played responsibly and stopped her competitor from bagging valuable points. She injected some intensity in her attack just before the interval and piled up a mountainous figure of 11.
Latter part of the game was also dominated by the Indian shuttler as she displayed maturity in her craft and won this crucial game with a convincing lead of eleven points in 21-10 margin.
The decider was expected to be s survival of the fittest war as both contenders were just one step away from the title match.
Unexpectedly, Saina looked completely out of touch this time as she hardly put up any resistance and surrendered tamely.
On the other hand, Wang Shixian capitalised her rival’s blunders and ended this semi-final match with a favourable score position of 21-9.
