Wang Shixian eases into Women’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 Yonex Japan Open Super Series
China’s Wang Shixian stormed into the Women’s Singles quarter-final as she easily tamed Japan’s Mitani Minatsu in the pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Yonex Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, on Thursday, September 22.
World Number Two shuttler, Shixian won the Women’s Singles title at last week’s China Masters Super Series and the player is determined to continue her winning streak. She played at her best against the local opponent in the round-of-16 battle and emerged
victorious in straight-sets of 33 minutes without facing any considerable trouble.
Shixian is a complete player in all aspects of the game as she plays with wonderful variations and knows well how to tackle any kind of situation during the match. She played positive badminton in the first-half of the set in order to get control of the
rallies. She remained successful in securing a reasonable lead of 11-8 in the first part of the game.
After the break, the young Chinese continued playing a dominating game by keeping her speed at the maximum level. Her impressive smashes and hard to return sharp drop shots put her rival in trouble. Consequently, Shixian won the first set against the Japanese
in 18 minutes with a good margin of 21-16.
The higher ranked Shixian played fast badminton in the second set of the match. She started to play an attacking game and spared no chance of smashing the bird from anywhere in the court. Minatsu failed to live up to expectations of the home crowd as she
could not match the speed and accuracy of her challenger. Until the interval, Shixian was progressing miles ahead at 11-7.
After the small break, the Japanese tried to reduce the gap but Shixian was playing on a different level as she showed no sign of slowing down throughout the game. She ended the second set in remarkable fashion with the margin of 21-12 in just 15 minutes.
This Women’s Singles two-set fight ended in 33 minutes with a 21-16 and 21-12 score on the board.
