Wang Shixian eases into Women’s Singles second round of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
China’s ace shuttler, Wang Shixian, has entered into the Women’s Singles second round by beating Japan’s Ai Goto in the first round of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, in Jakarta, on June 22, 2011.
The World Number One and top seed of the event, Shixian, delivered a remarkable performance against the Japanese in a straight-set fight, where the Chinese took only 31 minutes to prove her dominance in the match.
The top seed opened her campaign in the Premier Super Series event in striking fashion, as she tamed the Japanese by showing no mercy in the opening set. Goto failed completely to match the accuracy and speed of the firing Shixian, who was moving around
in the court with incredible ease.
The Japanese found no gap in her opponent’s court in the entire opening game. Shixian took control of proceedings in the first game and maintained a considerable difference to win the game by a dramatic margin of 21-9, in just 14 minutes.
In the second game, Goto changed her technique and started to play aggressive badminton by coming fast at the net to avoid hitting high clears. Her changed tactics worked well and she managed to remain close to the top seed in the opening half of the second
game, where she was behind Shixian at 10-11.
After the break, Shixian injected more speed into her strokes and dictated the pace of the rallies against the Japanese, who made some crucial mistakes by hitting the bird wide from the side lines of the court. Shixian found no resistance in the ending phase
of the second game and won it in just 17 minutes, with a four-point margin of 21-17.
The straight-set opening round match ended in the favour of the Chinese shuttler with a 21-9 and 21-17 margin. Shixian took just 31 minutes on the court to oust her challenger.
In the second round, Shixian will fight against Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei, who crushed Pi Hongyan of France in the first stage of the tournament.
