Wang Shixian narrowly escapes first round in Women’s Singles: 2011 China Master Super Series
China’s former World Number One, Wang Shixian remained extremely lucky as she narrowly escaped defeat from the hands of Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the Women’s Singles first round of the 2011 China Masters Super Series, in China. The encounter was
held on September 14.
The higher ranked Chinese won the three set fight with a narrow margin in the final game. Shixian, the World Number Two and second seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the event, played quivering badminton in her first round match against Tzu Ying, who is
currently ranked World Number 19. The second seed had to dig deep into her arsenal to bring some perfect strokes and won the tensed fight, which lasted for 72 minutes.
The opening set was completely one-sided as the Chinese was sailing smoothly without facing any resistance from Tzu Ying, who failed to control the pace of the bird. With the presence of a huge local crowd in the indoor arena, Shixian played with passion
and clinched the first game with a wonderful result of 21-13, in just 17 minutes.
The second game was tougher for the Chinese, as Tzu Ying played with a different strategy this time. She repeated no mistake which she committed in the previous set and remained close to her opponent. The score reached in the concluding part of the set when
the higher ranked Chinese played a few wrong strokes and lost the set with a tight 19-21 margin, in 25 minutes.
The third set of this interesting match between the two shuttlers was competitive, as both ladies were playing at the same level and speed. Both shuttlers spared no chance for each other to secure points in the whole set and the score reached at the dramatic
stage of 29-29. The Chinese remained lucky in scoring the last point and won the set with the dramatic score of 30-29. This Women’s Singles thrilling contest ended in three sets with the score of 21-13, 19-21 and 30-29.
