Wang Shixian storms in Women’s Singles second round at Badminton Asia Championships 2012
China’s in-form shuttler Wang Shixian stormed into Women’s Singles second round after defeating Hsiao Ma Pai in the opening round contest at Badminton Asia Championships 2012 at Qingdao, China, on Wednesday, April 18.
Shixian, who World Number 3 and also third seed in the main draw of Asia Championship, was on a different level while playing against Hsiao Ma in her first battle and managed to win it in straight games.
The Chinese shuttler took 55 minutes in the court to oust her lower ranked Taipei opponent and advanced into the next stage.
On the other hand, Hsiao Ma showed her aggression in the court in opening set and remained close until the ending points.
However, she could not put up a good fight in the second game and lost the match in two sets.
In the first set, Shixian was a bit relaxed in the opening rallies as she was getting accommodated with the court condition and also played slow game.
The slow movement of third seeded Shixian provided a chance to her opponent to remain close on the score board until the mid-game interval in opening set.
After the break, Hsiao Ma did not let her rival to build lead as she was playing with an impressive speed.
The score remained close in the entire concluding set of opening game and reached at 22-22.
At this crucial stage, Shixian showed her remarkable skills when she clinched two points in a row and managed to win the set with a thrilling margin of 24-22.
In the second set, Shixian was everywhere in the court as she played completely different game this time. She did not let Hsiao Ma to control the pace and managed a superb lead until the break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Chinese shuttler continued her elevated performance and did not spare any chance for her Taipei opponent to reduce the deficit at any stage.
The third seed ended the second set with a fantastic 21-14 score on the board.
Shixian won her first battle in straight games of 55 minutes with a convincing score of 24-22 and 21-14.
