Wang Shixian to clash with team-mate Wang Xin in the semi-final of All England Premier Super Series
China’s Wang Shixian and Wang Xin have won their quarter-final matches of the Women’s Singles in the event of All England Premier Super Series 2011, at Birmingham, England, on March 11.
The number three seed Xin, defeated team-mate Jiang Yanjiao, in straight-sets, whereas, the top seed Shixian, won her match against Juliane Schenk of Germany, in a three-set match. Both winners will play against each other in the semi-final to make the contest,
an all-China affair.
In the opening set of the match, Xin proved that she is one of the top shuttlers in the Women’s Singles category. She was leading the game in first set and reached at 11-6, until the interval. Jiang failed to match the speed and accuracy of her opponent
and was trailing behind in the entire set. The number three seed won the opening game with a remarkable performance of 21-12, by spending just 10 minutes in the court.
The second game was a little better as compared to the previous one, where Jiang remained close until 9-11, in the first-half of the set. After the one-minute-break, Xin accelerated the pace of the game by playing attacking strokes that earned her a good
lead of 16-12. She maintained the advantage in the rest of the set and finished it with a notable difference of 21-15, in 14 minutes. The ending score of this 24-minute match was, 21-12 and 21-15.
In another quarter-final battle, the number one seed of the event, Shixian of China, got rid of seventh seed German shuttler, Juliane, who defeated Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei, in her previous match. The Chinese started the opening set against the
German in quivering fashion, as she made many mistakes in the opening half of the game. Juliane was leading the game by a slight margin of 11-9, until the break. After the interval, the German stretched her lead by playing positive strokes and won the set
by a 21-17 margin, in 19 minutes.
Shixian played better in the second set and took a quick lead of 11-7 in the first part of the game. After getting back from the one-minute-rest, the Chinese lady maintained the speed and controlled the rallies to reach at 18-12. The German tried very hard
to reduce the gap but completely failed to do so, as her opponent was playing at her best. Shixian levelled the match by winning the second game in 22 minutes, with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the final set of this thrilling quarter-final match, it was the top seed Chinese who proved that she is the best in the business by restricting Juliane at 4-11, until the interval. After the break, Shixian continued her winning run and finished the game
with a stunning difference of 21-11, in just 17 minutes. The Chinese took 58 minutes to chuck out the German and booked her place in the semi-final of the event.
