China’s prime Women’s Singles campaigner Wang Shixian displayed unbeatable craft on the court and thrashed Sung Ji Hyun in group stage of BWF Superseries Finals on December 13, 2012.
Though, this battle ended in just two games but still both contenders had to sweat hard for 54 minutes to read final figures of 21-19 and 21-19.
The local badminton complex of Shenzhen was full of local crowd that gathered to encourage the native shuttler.
World Number five Wang Shixian did not disappoint them and wrapped this showdown with a splendid straight-set victory.
She looked completely on song as the opposing Korean shuttler could not pocket even a single match point.
The battle heated up immediately in the beginning of first set as both players made every effort to gain an early advantage.
Initially, Ji Hyun remained at the lower end but then she gathered some pace and caught her rival on the points table.
She gathered few valuable points in a row and enjoyed an upper hand in next couple of rallies. She managed to finish first half of the set with a decent total of 11.
However, her supremacy was short-lived as the Chinese campaigner stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale on her favour.
Wang Shixian showed a transformed character in third quarter of the set and established a respectable lead.
She did not squander this effort in the final stage and bagged first match point with scoreboard flashing 21-19 margin.
The second set started with Ji Hyun prevailing in the establishing rallies and this initial advantage raised her chances of success.
She capitalised her psychological edge and doubled her total before the announcement of break. She strengthened her grip by registering an impressive figure of 11.
At this stage, lack of good finishing skills proved the biggest hurdle for her as she failed to excel in the pressure situation and surrendered.
On the other hand, Wang Shixian displayed great fighting spirit and locked the honour with a winning score of 21-19.
Now she is scheduled to meet Eriko Hirose and this group match will be do or die situation for the Chinese shuttler.
