China’s Wang Xin continues her impressive winning run as she has trounced Spain’s Carolina Marin the Women’s Singles round-of-16 in the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, in Hong Kong, on Thursday, November 17.
The World Number Three, Xin took just 29 minutes to prove her supremacy over Marin as she finished off the battle in straight games. She won the match without facing any considerable resistance from her opponent in the whole match.
In the opening set of the match, the Chinese shuttler opened her campaign in a scintillating fashion as she took no time in building up a wonderful lead in the opening half of the set. Her impressive fast drop shots forced her opponent to lean forward which
helped her in manipulating the rear-court area. She was in a good position at the end of the opening half in the first game as she managed a lead of 11-7.
After the break, Marin anticipated the drop shots of her opponent and started to dominate at the net. However, Xin accelerated her speed to execute cross-court attacking lobs and remained successful in creating gaps in her opponent’s court. Her powerful
smashes perfectly landed in the right areas and she finished off the first game by taking just 14 minutes with a margin of 21-13.
In the following game of this round-of-16 battle, the fight became quite interesting as both shuttlers were not making any error this time. The score progressed closely in the opening half as both shuttlers were playing at the same level and maintained high
pace in the rallies. Until the break, the Chinese was just ahead of her opponent.
In the concluding part of the match, Xin played remarkable badminton and stretched her lead by remaining focused. She finished off the match by winning the second game with a margin of 21-15 in 15 minutes. The 29-minute pre-quarter-final contest ended up
with a 21-13 and 21-15 score on the board.
In the Women’s Singles quarter-final, Xin will be up against the eighth seed Cheng Shao Chieh of Chinese Taipei, who thrashed Japan’s Eriko Hirose in straight games at the top-16 stage.
