Wang Yihan advances into Women’s Singles semi-final at All England Open Premier Super Series 2012
China’s top seed Wang Yihan powered her way into Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Tine Baun of Denmark in quarter-final encounter at All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Friday, March 9, in England.
Yihan, who is World Number One and top seed in the event, worked really hard to chuck out the fifth seed Baun who is positioned at number seven in the Women’s Singles world standings.
The Danish lady played well in the opening game and also put up superb show in the second set. However, she could not live up to expectations in the deciding game and lost the match in three sets of 65 minutes.
In the first set, both players engaged the crowd with their impressive play and remained close until 7-7 when Baun geared up her speed and took an 11-8 lead until the break.
After the break, Yihan played positive game and ended the dominance of her rival and remained equal on the score board until 19-19.
At this stage, the higher ranked Chinese could not maintain her focus in the game and executed some wrong shots and eventually lost the set with a tight score of 19-21.
In the second set, Baun remained dominant in the game as she played with precision and continued manipulating the loopholes of her higher ranked rival. Until the break, she was ahead at 11-9.
After the break, Yihan changed her tactics and started to execute flat strokes to stop the aggression of her lower ranked Danish opponent.
Both ladies remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at the breath-taking stage of 21-21 when Yihan remained lucky in scoring two consecutive points and took the game with a dramatic margin of 25-23.
However, it was a completely different story in the deciding game, when Yihan controlled the pace of rallies and took an incredible lead of 11-5.
After the break, the top seed continued crushing her Danish opponent with her impressive speed and accurate strokes. She took the second game with a stunning 21-9 score on the board.
The Chinese won this three-set fight in 65 minutes with a margin of 19-21, 25-23 and 21-9.
In the semi-final match, Yihan will be up against her compatriot Wang Shixian who overpowered her team-mate Jiang Yanjiao in another quarter-final battle.
