Wang Yihan beats Wang Xin to enter into Women’s Singles final of the 2011 World Championships
China’s second seed, Wang Yihan continued her winning run and made her way through to the Women’s Singles final after beating compatriot, Wang Xin in the semi-final of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, on Saturday, August
13.
Yihan is enjoying the second spot in the Women’s Singles world rankings and is also the second seed in the World Championships. She played tremendous badminton against the World Number Three, Xin, who thrashed India’s Saina Nehwal in the Women’s Singles
quarter-final of the Championship.
In the opening set of the semi-final showdown, Yihan remained calm and focused against her talented young compatriot, Xin and remained successful in controlling the pace of the game. She was playing with precision and was perfect in executing net strokes.
Until the interval in the opening set, Yihan was going ahead at 11-7.
After the break, she continued her impressive play by remaining positive and pushed her opponent in all corners of the court. Xin remained struggling particularly in the front court, as Yihan clinched the opening set with a seven-point difference of 21-14
in 20 minutes.
In the second game, Yihan again established a good lead of 11-7 by playing positive badminton. However, Xin changed her strategy and levelled the score by reaching at 13-13. Xin was leading the second game by 14-13 when Yihan lifted her speed and grabbed
the second game with the score of 21-15 in 22 minutes. This straight-set battle ended in 42 minutes with the victory of Yihan by a margin of 21-14 and 21-15.
After the match, a dejected Xin said, “I wasn't satisfied with my own performance. We train together so it's hard to play against each other.”
While talking about her absence in the All England Open in March, Yihan said, “I was disappointed not to come to England in March, but I rested and recovered and trained well, and have prepared myself as best I can for this.”
In the Women’s Singles final, Yihan will meet Cheng Shao Chieh of Chinese Taipei who crushed Juliane Schenk of Germany in the other semi-final.
