Wang Yihan captures Women’s Singles crown at the 2011 Japan Open Super Series – Badminton news
China’s World Number One, Wang Yihan captured the Women’s Singles crown as she punished Juliane Schenk of Germany in the title-match of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, September 25.
The ruling World Champion and top seed, Yihan delivered a convincing performance throughout the tournament and won the title by maintaining her wonderful form. She remained focused in the final contest and overwhelmed her opponent without any considerable
problem.
World Number Eight, Schenk, who thrashed many higher ranked shuttlers in the previous round of Japan Open, failed to continue her impressive run against the top seed, Yihan, who was too strong in all aspects of the game.
The first set of the match was wonderful as both ladies gave a tough time to each other for every single point. Schenk was impressive at the net while Yihan was playing better badminton from the rear court. Until the interval, the Chinese was leading the
set by a margin of 11-9.
After the 60-second break, the Chinese lifted up her level of play and dictated the pace of the game by moving fast at the net. Her better net play put Schenk in an awkward position as the Danish could not score points from the rear-court area. Yihan’s smart
play helped her to win the first set by a 21-16 margin in 23 minutes.
The following set of this Women’s Singles final match was tough in the starting points but as the match progressed, Yihan took control of the pace and started to put pressure on the German. Schenk tried her best to match the accuracy and speed of her challenger,
but she failed as Yihan was not leaving any room for her rival to score points.
The planned, positive and aggressive play of Yihan helped her to maintain a wonderful pressure over her opponent. She grabbed the second game by playing to her full potential with the margin of 21-14, in 20 minutes. This Women’s Singles final showdown finished
in straight games of 43 minutes by a margin of 21-16 and 21-14.
