Wang Yihan continues her superb run in the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012
China’s top player, Wang Yihan, proves her impressive skills as she has powered her way into Women’s Singles semi-final after crushing Juliane Schenk of Germany in the quarter-final showdown of the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Friday, January
6, in Korea.
The world Number One Yihan, who is top seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, has outclassed Schenk, who has been placed at number eight in the Women’s Singles world standings.
The Chinese lady did not waste her time as she took just 33 minutes to beat the German opponent and entered into semi-final of the tournament.
Yihan played remarkable badminton in the first set and took it without facing any trouble from her rival. She remained positive in the second game of the set and ended it up with a terrific score on the board.
This quarter-final battle started in thrilling fashion as both ladies played at their best speed in the opening rallies. However, Yihan controlled the driving seat and started to dictate her German challenger in all corners of the court.
Yihan remained in dominating position throughout the opening half of first set and established a superb lead.
Schenk tried her best to reduce the deficit but lost her control over the rallies. On the other hand, Yihan was focused in the game and missed no chance to extend her lead. She won the opening game in style with a stunning score of 21-10.
In the second game, the German lady tried to play aggressive badminton in the opening rallies but failed to place her strokes in the right areas. She also committed a few unforced errors in the first half of the set which helped her higher ranked opponent
to build a good lead.
After the break, Yihan accelerated her speed and maintained pressure on her confused opponent. She stretched her lead in the game and remained successful in ending it with a terrific score of 21-11.
The final result of this Women’s Singles quarter-final showdown was 21-10 and 21-11.
In the semi-final battle, Yihan will take on her compatriot Yanjiao Jiang, who ousted India’s Saina Nehwal in the other quarter-final encounter.
