Wang Yihan feels proud on her performance against Korea in Uber Cup Finals
China’s prime female shuttler Wang Yihan proved her mettle by providing a breakthrough against Korea in the title match of Uber Cup Finals as she is satisfied after hitting the mark in the esteemed team event.
World Number one player showed commendable fighting spirit and trounced the opposing shuttler Sung Ji Hyun despite losing the first set of the opening encounter.
Yihan was about to face a straight-set defeat when she stormed back with a strong reply and managed to stay in the contest by levelling the match score.
The Korean campaigner Ji Hyun dominated the chunk of the second segment as she reached just one shot away from a splendid victory. The Chinese lady turned her plans into dust by putting a staggering performance.
She recalled those moments when she was hanging by thread to stay alive after losing opening set with 14-21. She stated that it reminded her failure in 2010 Uber Cup Finals when she got whipped in the same fashion.
Wang Yihan said, “I almost lost ... the score was 16-20 in the second, but I turned and looked at the Uber Cup trophy. It reminded me of my failure and I did not want to miss the Cup again.”
She did not lose her nerve and came back from nowhere in the end. Her World Number 11 rival tried hard to pocket match point but Yihan’s determination proved too much for her.
The local shuttler relished home ground and crowd advantage as she unveiled her strategy that she remained focus to dominate every rally and did not even think about the six point deficit.
She said, “I slowly but surely gained one point after another and fought on. My opponent was quite tense and the pressure of winning got to her. I won six points in a row to nick it!”
In the decider she proved herself world’s best at beating the shuttlecock as she stole the limelight with a remarkable total of 21-13.
This splendid win boosted confidence of her compatriots and they swept the table in following two encounters.
The twosome of Yu Yang-Xiaoli doubled the lead and then Singles campaigner Wang Xin sealed 3-0 victory by winning third and final tie of the match.
