Wang Yihan overpowers Sung Ji Hyun in Uber Cup Finals 2012 – Badminton news
China’s top shuttler Wang Yihan had to dig deep into her reserves to overpower her lower ranked opponent Sung Ji Hyun of Korea at the final contest of Uber Cup Finals on Saturday, May 26, at Wuhan, China.
The World Number One Yihan, who lost her right in the final of last edition of Uber Cup, did not made those mistakes while playing against Ji Hyun this time and remained successful in winning the battle in hard-fought 87-minute competition.
The higher ranked Yihan lost the first game but remained lucky in winning the second set with a tight margin.
However, she remained comfortable in taking the final set against her Korean rival with a good margin and emerged as the winner of the contest.
On the other hand, the World Number 11 Ji Hyun played with impressive precision in the opening game but remained lucky in winning the second one. She lost her focus in the match and lost it in three games with a respectable margin.
In the opening set, Yihan found a perfect start when she remained in complete control and took a wonderful lead until the one-minute interval.
However, Ji Hyun played better badminton after the break and remained successful in making the score levelled.
The higher ranked Chinese tried her best to stop the progress of her rival but failed and lost the first set with a huge difference of 14-21.
In the second game, both ladies played terrific badminton in the opening half and remained close on the score board until the break.
After the interval, the Korean took over the control and managed to reach at 20-16 but remained unfortunate as she could not score the match point as Yihan played well and score four points in a row and eventually took the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the deciding game, the Chinese got confidence with the win in the previous set and she played impressive badminton without committing errors.
The higher ranked Chinese was in full control and she easily wrapped up the set with a convincing margin of 21-13.
Yihan won this spectacular battle in 87 minutes with a sensational 14-21, 22-20 and 21-13 score on the board.
