Wang Yihan overpowers Tine Baun in Women’s Singles quarter-final battle at Indonesia Open
China’s top player Wang Yihan penetrated into Women’s Singles semi-final after beating Tine Baun of Denmark in quarter-final showdown at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Friday, June 15, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
The World Number One Yihan, who is also top seed in Women’s Singles draw of the championship, employed all of her tricks that she had in her basket and eventually remained successful in winning the battle with a tight score.
The higher ranked Chinese lady had to play to her maximum potential to overpower the World Number 6 Baun in a thrilling straight-set battle that took top class badminton from both sides.
Yihan played at her best to chuck out Baun with a dramatically tight score on the board.
On the other hand, the in-form Baun played impressive badminton against the World Number One and also kept on troubling her throughout the match but failed to live up to expectations in ending points and lost the match with a respectable score.
In the first set, both ladies started their run in a staggering manner as they playing powerful shots to take advantage on the score board.
It was Yihan who showed her impressive craft at the end of opening half and managed a reasonable gap of 11-8 until the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, the Danish played well and levelled the score but failed to take a reasonable lead as her opponent was not making any mistakes.
The Chinese lady played aggressive game in the ending phase of first game and managed to win it with a close margin of 21-19.
In the second game, the top seeded Yihan continued her killing run against her Danish opponent and again managed a reasonable lead on the score board until the end of opening half.
However, she failed to maintain the gap as her rival played positive badminton and made the score levelled at 13-13.
Both ladies played at the same speed and reached at the dramatic stage of 24-24 when Yihan remained lucky in getting ending points and won the set with a tight score of 26-24.
The higher ranked Yihan won this Women’s Singles battle in straight games by putting up 21-19 and 26-24 score on the board.
