Wang Yihan stamps Nichaon Jindapon en route to quarter-finals of 2013 Badminton Asia Championships
China’s prime female shuttler Wang Yihan continued her successful run in Badminton Asia Championships and marched into the quarter-final round on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
This Women’s Singles encounter saw her swinging arms against Nichaon Jindapon. This 55-minute tussle proved real test for both shuttlers as they challenged each other in all areas of game while piling up final figures of 16-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
Initially, World Number three Wang Yihan looked bit off colour as she lost the opening game but then she managed to end her bad patch and sealed a splendid victory.
On the other hand, the Thai campaigner failed to show consistency in her performance and crashed out of the event in a disgraceful manner.
Nichaon, who was underrated in this tournament, amazed everyone by displaying a commendable craft on the court. She did not give her rival enough time to read her game and established a decent lead in no time.
She did not squander her effort and doubled the total by prevailing in few back-to-back rallies. At the mid-game break, she was in commanding position and this helped her to finish first set with a favourable score of 21-16.
However, it proved her last success in this tournament as the Chinese badminton queen revived her lost form and tipped the scale in her favour.
This time Wang Yihan did not repeat her previous mistakes and managed to rule the court in establishing rallies. She did not allow her competitor to pocket valuable points and strengthened her grip by placing a convincing margin of 11 before interval.
After the one-minute break, Wang Yihan made some fatal mistakes and lost her grip but then a strong backlash helped her to register a winning figure of 21-16.
The third set of match became consequential as both contenders were looking to claim the final match point.
They remained equal in the establishing rallies and did not allow each other to enjoy a permanent lead. Finally, this nerve-racking tussle ended when Wang Yihan swept the table with 21-16 score.
With this win, she earned a spot in the quarter-finals of Badminton Asia Championships.
