Wang Yihan topples Saina Nehwal in women’s Singles quarter-final of the China Masters Super Series
Wang Yihan of China showed no mercy to World Number Five, Saina Nehwal of India in the Women’s Singles quarter-final showdown of the 2011 China Masters Super Series, in China on Friday, September 16.
Yihan, who is currently enjoying the top position in the Women’s Singles world rankings, is also the top seed of the event’s main draw. She played with great touch of aggression and perfection. Her flawless game plan against the Indian proved her maturity
and domination in the game. The top seed Chinese won the battle in two sets by taking just 33 minutes.
Yihan opened the first set in an inspiring manner, as she quickly built up a wonderful lead by reaching at 11-4. The Indian completely failed to tackle the pace of the rallies as she was moving slower when compared to her spirited opponent. She also made
committed many unforced errors which helped the Chinese to get into a strong position in the first set.
Saina tried to bridge the huge gap but failed as her rival refused to slower down her speed. The wonderful tactical play of Yihan earned her a considerable psychological advantage over the Indian, who almost gave up in the first set. The top seed finished
the first game in remarkable fashion with the surprising margin of 21-8, in just 15 minutes.
The Chinese ace shuttler continued her impressive display of top-class badminton in the second set and was successful in creating a five-point gap of 11-6, until the interval. Saina tried her best and employed all of her skills but failed to break the momentum
of the Chinese. Yihan played flawless badminton by remaining calm and composed in the court.
The perfect play of the Chinese helped her in winning the second set with a huge margin of 21-12, in 18 minutes. The top seed emerged as the winner in 33 minutes with the score of 21-8 and 21-12.
In the Women’s singles semi-final, the top seeded Chinese will take on her compatriot, Yanjiao Jiang, who crushed another Chinese, Xin Liu in their quarter-final battle.
