Wang Yihan trounces Bae Yeon Ju in Women’s Singles pre quarter-finals of 2012 London Olympics
China’s Wang Yihan secured a spot in Women’s Singles quarter-finals of London Olympics after thrashing Bae Yeon Ju at Wembley Arena on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.
This pre quarter-final encounter prolonged to three sets before ending with final result of 15-21, 21-14 and 21-14.
Though, the Chinese shuttler registered a 2-1 win but she had to put all in her possession to oust the spirited Korean campaigner.
The World Number one Wang Yihan had a horrendous start as she slipped in the opening game but she managed to save some honour by winning the last two sets.
On the other hand, Yeon Ju lacked good finishing skills and crashed out despite of having an initial advantage.
She took off in perfect manner and clinched first set with a notable lead of six points in concluding margin.
In the first half of the set, she was bit conscious but then couple of back-to-back rallies boosted her confidence and she kept the higher ranked rival under her influence.
She masterly controlled the overall pace of rallies and finished first half as leading contender. She did not lose this flow even after the mid-game break and dictated her challenger all the way to final moments.
The World Number 12 Korean shuttler ruled the court in second half and bagged vital match point with a significant score of 21-15.
However, it was her last success in the main event as the badminton queen Wang Yihan stamped her supremacy in following games.
The Chinese ace unleashed unbeatable craft straight away in the beginning of the second set and established a notable lead in no time.
She employed unusual tactics and stamped her lower ranked rival in all areas of the game. She strengthened her grip with eleven points before the interval and then served notice of her dominance with 21-14 score on the board.
Wang Yihan, who is frontrunner in the race of Olympic gold medal, did not lose this touch in third set of the match and cast out her competitor in the same manner.
She registered a winning figure of 21-14 and marched into the quarter-finals where she will be up against the Taipei player Cheng Shao Chieh.
