Wang Yihan trounces Eriko Hirose in Women’s Singles first round at Badminton Asia Championships
China’s ace player and World Number 1 Wang Yihan eased into Women’s Singles second round after taming Eriko Hirose of Japan in first round battle at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 in China, on Wednesday, April 18.
Yihan, who is top seed in the main draw of Asia Championships, proved her superiority in the arena as she did not show mercy to her upcoming Japanese player Hirose in an inspiring fashion.
The Chinese was impressive in her play against the Japanese and won the contest in straight sets with a comprehensive margin.
On the other hand, Hirose could not put up strong show against her higher ranked opponent and lost the contest rather easily without winning any game.
Yihan started her campaign in the opening set with an impressive speed as she did not let her Japanese opponent to take the bird early.
Her powerful drives troubled Hirose as she could not play aggressive badminton. Until the one-minute interval, Yihan was in comfortable position in the set as she managed an 11-5 lead on the board.
After the break, the impressive Chinese continued her positive run in the court as she did not drop her speed and kept her rival moving around in the whole court.
Yihan sailed smoothly in the first game and won it with a sensational 21-13 margin on the score board.
The second set was much better when Hirose also geared up her speed and matched the pace of rallies.
The Japanese showed her brilliance as she played attacking badminton and also remained close to her rival on the board.
Until the mid-game interval, both ladies could not manage a reasonable lead on the board.
After the one-minute break, Hirose managed a reasonable lead while playing with precision. However, she could not maintain it as her opponent played with variations at this stage.
Yihan levelled the score at 13-13 and continued playing elevated game. The score was 18-18 when the top seed showed her brilliance and scored the remaining points in a row to take the set with a margin of 21-18.
The top seeded Chinese lady took the opening battling in 42 minutes with a convincing 21-13 and 21-18 score on the board.
