Wang Yihan: unbeaten campaign in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011
China’s talented Women’s Singles shuttler, Wang Yihan, proved her worth by demonstrating an unbeatable campaign in the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2011.
The 23-year-old and World Number Three, Yihan, opened her campaign against Hsiao Ma Pai of Chinese Taipei, in the opening round of the Indonesia Open. It was a stunning battle between the two shuttlers in the opening round, where both players put up a wonderful fight. Yihan emerged as the winner of the match by a score of 22-20 and 21-13.
In the Women’s Singles second round, the Chinese lady played against Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong. In this encounter, Yihan had to struggle in the opening set where she had to dig deep into her reserves to win the first game by a tight difference of 23-21.
However, the Chinese shuttler sailed easily in the second game, where she changed her tactics and dictated the pace of the rallies and finished the match with a 21-15 and 21-16 margin.
In the quarter-final of the event, Yihan was up against Juliane Schenk of Germany, who is one of the most talented shuttler in Europe. On paper, it was an even match as Juliane had been playing well for the last five months.
The opening set of the match was very interesting where both shuttlers were tied until the score reached at the critical stage of 21-21. At this stage, the Chinese managed to clinch the set by scoring two consecutive points and won the set by a 23-21 margin.
However, the second set was not that entertaining for supporters of the German shuttler, as the Chinese showed no mercy to Juliane and finished the game with a 21-11 margin.
In the semi-final match, Yihan played against her team-mate, Yanjiao Jiang. Yihan found her momentum by winning the previous three matches in the event, as she thrashed her compatriot in the semi-final of the championship.
In the first set, Yihan rushed towards the win by playing at her best. She made no errors in the whole game and clinched the opening set by a 21-13 margin. In the second game, she continued her authoritative run in the match and spared no chance for her team-mate to come back in the contest.
Yihan won the second set with a 21-12 margin. The score of this semi-final battle was 21-13 and 21-12.
In the final of the match, Yihan was up against Saina Nehwal of India, who clinched the opening set by playing better badminton in the concluding phase of the match. However, the Chinese was lucky in the second game where she saved a match point.
She clinched the Women’s Singles crown by winning the second and third set of the final match with a 12-21, 23-21 and 21-14 margin.
