Wang Zhengming casts out Daren Liew in 2013 Singapore Open – Badminton news
China’s talented shuttler Wang Zhengming had a perfect start in Li Ning Singapore Open as he thrashed Daren Liew in the opening round and qualified for the pre quarter-finals on June 19, 2013.
This Men’s Singles tussle was staged in the local badminton complex of Singapore and both contenders remained head-to-head for 42 minutes. A decent number of badminton lovers gathered to encourage both shuttlers and they enjoyed the contest until the final
result of 21-15 and 21-18.
The Chinese campaigner laid foundation of his success immediately in the beginning and sealed a splendid straight-set victory. On the other hand, Daren Liew also showed great fighting spirit but luck was not on his side.
Wang Zhengming, who holds eighth spot in the tournament ranking, elevated his status by performing exceptionally well in both segments of the showdown. In first set of match, he played cautiously in the beginning but then few back-to-back productive rallies
boosted his confidence.
He employed an unbeatable strategy in first half of the set and managed to place a decent total before interval. He started second half of the set with a psychological edge and kept his challenger at the lower end in most part of the game.
He mounted pressure by claiming few consecutive points in third quarter of the set and then magnified the impact in final stage. He registered a winning margin of 21-15 and established his dominance in overall match score position.
The second set of match was not a dead contest as the young Malaysian shuttler also showed a great character and matched his rival’s skills all the way to game point situation. Daren Liew managed to rise on his toes in the preliminary stage and placed a
respectable margin on the board.
He did not allow his competitor to relish the benefits if first set win and kept him far behind on the points’ table. However, few fatal mistakes hit Daren hard in third quarter of the set. He dropped many valuable points in a row and gave the opposing shuttler
a chance to comeback.
Wang Zhengming did not squander this opportunity and sealed a commendable victory with 21-18 total.
