Wang Zhengming storms into Men’s Singles second round at Badminton Asia Championships 2012
China’s Wang Zhengming stormed into Men’s Singles second round after crushing Korea’s Dong Keun Lee in first round battle at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 in China, on Tuesday, April 17.
Zhengming, who has been placed at number 15 in the world, showed his brilliance in the opening encounter of the tournament when he toppled the Korean in an impressive fashion.
The young Chinese, who is eighth seed in the tournament, put up tremendous show in front of his home crowd and bagged the battle in straight games while working for 52 minutes in the court.
Zhengming has been struggling hard for the last one year to win a major tournament. However, he showed a wonderful determination in his opening fight in this tournament and proved that he is ready to take bigger challenges.
In the first set, Zhengming remained focused from the starting points and he did not let his opponent to take even a slight lead at any stage in the opening half.
On the other hand, the Korean could not find a good flow in the starting points and remained struggling at 5-11 until the one-minute interval in the first game.
After the break, Zhengming geared up his speed and stretched his lead without facing much problem.
However, Dong Keun started to play competitive badminton and also managed to reduce the deficit but failed to level the score at any stage.
Zhengming maintained his commanding position in the game and won it with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second set, Dong Keun changed his strategy as he also played with precision and matched the speed of his opponent while remaining focused in the game.
Until the mid-game interval, both men were quite close as no one could establish his domination in the game.
After the break, Zhengming tried to take lead by playing attacking badminton but failed to take lead as his opponent was quicker in taking his shots.
The score was 18-18 when Zhengming played killing badminton and scored the remaining points to take the set with a margin of 21-18.
Zhengming won this first-round encounter with a decent 21-16 and 21-18 margin on the score board.
