China’s Wang Zhengming powered his way into Men’s Singles second round after taming Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong in the first round of the 2011 Yonex Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, September 21.
Zhengming has been struggling to find winning form for the last six months and his world ranking has also been dropped to Number 16. However, his first-round win indicates that he is back on the track as he showed a wonderful performance by playing positive
badminton against Hong Kong’s shuttler, Wing Ki. Ki is placed at 24th position in the Men’s Singles world standings.
The first set started in an incredibly fast way as both players were in a hurry to establish a comfortable lead. They were playing at the same speed, giving no room to each other to place strokes. The wonderful exchange of long rallies increased the interest
of the local crowd in this Men’s Singles fight.
The score reached at 10-10 when the Hong Kong shuttler scored a point to become the leader in the game by reaching 11-10. After the break, the score remained tight as no one could get a reasonable lead until the score reached 20-20.
At this crucial stage, Wing Ki got a match point by reaching 21-20, but he missed the opportunity to score. The Chinese scored three points in a row to claim the set with the score of 23-21, in 22 minutes.
The second set of this interesting battle was not that thrilling as the higher ranked Chinese got a firm grip over the pace of the game. He put maximum speed in his strokes to create pressure on his rival. He remained successful in his tactical play and
earned many points through unforced errors of his challenger.
Zhengming won the second game with wonderful ease in 17 minutes, with the 21-13 margin. The end score of this straight-set 39-minute match was 23-21 and 21-13. In the second round, Zhengming will take on the World Number One and top seed, Lee Chong Wei of
