Wankhede Stadium may lose out IPL play-offs to M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling over whether they will shift the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from Wankhede Stadium after the Mumbai police threatened to stop the BCCI officials from entering
the premises during the IPL matches if they failed to show police accreditations to security officials.
"The Board officials are upset with the Mumbai police for insisting that they have to carry police accreditations to enter their own offices (at Cricket Centre inside the Wankhede Stadium),” revealed the sources inside the board.
"The Mumbai Cricket Association has been given three days' time to sort out this issue with the police or the two semi finals matches (on May 24 and 25) would be shifted to Bangalore," the informed source further claimed.
The BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan, Chief operating officer, Prof Ratnakar Shetty, and the chief executive officer of Indian Premier League, Sundar Raman, were not allowed to enter Wankhede Stadium when the venue hosted its first IPL game
of the season between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 on April 15th. The police officials are not ready to accept official authorisations issued by the IPL without a police pass accompanying it. This seems to be matter that was not conveyed to the
IPL top-guns beore hand and they were debied attendance to their own tournament.
The two final round games will feature the top four teams of the league stage of the lucrative Twenty20 tournament.
If the matter with the police is not sorted out by the Mumbai Cricket Association, then the play-offs in all probability will be handed over to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 State Cricket Association (KSCA). It is the same association that benefitted in
the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 when ICC shifted a February 27th match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England from Kolkata’s Eden Gardens due to incomplete construction.
Two more games, including the grand finale between the two top franchises of the tournament is scheduled to be played at the M. A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
