The dedicated and diligent groundsmen of Wankhede prepared the venue for the 50-over showpiece cricket event in a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 period of just eight months.
The ground was so well-composed that the International Cricket Council’s inspection team passed it in just one visit.
Apart from holding some other important World Cup games, the Wankhede stadium had the honour of hosting the grand final of the tournament, between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, on April 2, 2011.
In the 36-year history of the World Cup, Wankhede became the first cricket venue where a home team lifted the most wanted World Cup Trophy.
The IPL commenced just six days after the World Cup and the ground staff had to prepare for it in haste. It was a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Richard-Griffith-c41953 challenge for them but they met it successfully.
The stadium organised many games of the lengthy IPL tournament. It was the home ground of Mumbai Indians, the IPL franchise captained by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sachin-Ramesh-Tendulkar-c87800.
The MCA has given Rs One lakh to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bannur-Nagaraja-Ramesh-c47268 Mahmunkar and Madhukar, the assistant curators. The 12 groundsmen were awarded Rs 25,000 each.
Commenting on the rewards, Mahmunkar said, “It obviously feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Francis-Bloomfield-c94006 that our efforts were recognised by the MCA. We never expected to get any such reward. Our only intention was to get the stadium ready on time and successfully conduct the World Cup matches
here.”
Botle stated, “There was tremendous pressure as there were many detractors who didn't want us to complete (the ground) on time. But we are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 to contribute in making the MCA and Indian board proud.”
