Want contacts?

I'm thinking of getting contacts sometime this summer. The only problem is I really hate touching my eyes. How long does it take to get used to putting them in and taking them out.

  1. I avoided getting contacts for six years because I am Really finicky about touching my eyes (I had considered getting them two years before, but the lady who was helping me Could Not get lenses in my eyes because I was flinching so strongly) and this past summer I finally decided to suck it up and try it. It took me about twenty minutes to get the first one in and another twenty to get the other one in. I would say that it took me a couple weeks to get really comfortable with it, but only a couple days to be able to handle it alright. Also, I found that it was more difficult for me to get the contact lenses out of my eyes until I worked out a way to do it--I'm sure the technician will give you suggestions, but I found that since I'm especially antsy about touching my eye, I like to move the lense to the outer corner of my eye and then take your finger and "brush" it out from the edge as opposed to pinching it out of the center of my eye (it's a lot easier if you have a visual demonstration, but again, I am sure you'll receive many suggestions from the technician). You'll work out something that you're comfortable with--but it's definitely worth it! I love being able to go out without my glasses :)

  2. It all depends on the person. For me, I instantly got used to them. After a week, I was popping them in and out like it was nothing. My best friend took a bit longer, and even to this day (its been years) she still isn't nearly as quick as me. Some people will just never be comfortable with touching their eyes.

The worst thing you can do is NOT try though! Contacts are amazing, once you get used to them. They are SO much easier and convenient than glasses. I barely use my glasses anymore, but that's just me.

Just give it a try. The first few times will be tough, but after a while you'll get used to it. Trust me, the pros outweigh the cons.

    Good luck :]

  3. Everyone is different, but most people get the hang of it after a couple of weeks. Besides, you're touching your eyelid and the contact lens. You never touch your actual eye. I hope this helps.

  4. my friend just got contacts and she was scared for the same reasons.

now she tells me that its weird but true- she has no problem touching her eyes.  she even tries to freak me out by moving her eyeball!

but anyways, everyone is scared of contacts at first and has trouble when they first start putting them in.  once you get in the habit, it's as easy as brushing your teeth!

  5. I use contacts myself and it needs very careful attention in handling them, I mean, it is made of delicate artificial membranes therefore, one can't rub eyes when its on. It takes couple of days to get used to it though. But make sure it is cleaned with anti-bacterial Lens cleanser liquid each time before you use them.

  6. I don't think anyone is actually COMFORTABLE touching their eyes, but you get used to it. When I first got mine (age 13), I had so much trouble I cried. But within two days, I got them in on the first try.
