  1. I think Japan is because I am a Japanese

  2. This is a difficult question to answer because the definition of "rich" varies from person to person and from circumstance to circumstance.  For instance, if you measure SOLELY based on average yearly income, suddenly you have to take into account such things as exchange rates and cost of living variances.  By this model, Luxembourg appears to be the richest.  And while it's true that, yes, Luxembourg is a wealthy country, is it really radically richer than, say, the USA or Japan or Germany.  Really, no.

If you judge by GDP (Gross Domestic Product - in other words, the TOTAL value of all services and products produced by a particular country in a year), then the USA is the clear winner, but China is closing fast.  If you went to either country though, you'd see problems.  The USA is, of course, an extremely wealthy country, but there's a great disparity in wealth.  There's a lot of poverty in America and millions of Americans lack basic health insurance.  China, now the second largest economy has hundreds of millions of people living in abject poverty along side the hundreds of millions that are middle class or upper income.

So, you see, it's a tough question to answer.

As for me, I'll probably end up taking my meager Social Security pension when I retire in the USA and will move to some country where the money will really stretch:  Cambodia?  Bolivia?  Paraguay?  Botswana?  Why live like a pauper in a trailer house in Tuscaloosa when you can live like a king in Poorbutproudistan?
