  1. All the other people are saying that it would be better to go with the 160 gb since it would be faster since it is newer and later drive, blah, blah, blah...

But if you really think about it, if you would be using the 160 GB drive as master, you would also be forced to place in that drive most of your files (songs, pics, videos) simply because it is the bigger drive...  Now if you do that, and if for some reason, your computer becomes broken because of physical damage to the drive or a virus attack or maybe because of some corruption in the files that would not enable you to boot up your system,  you would be so worried because all of your files would be in that same hard drive...

So I suggest that you use the 40 GB as master, install your OS in there and use the 160 GB as back up...If ever your computer gets broken, at least you' won't be worried as your files are safe in the other drive.

  2. i will suggest u to make 40gb as master and dont keep any usefull data over it keep all data in 160 gb divied your 40 gb into half and then install OS on one partition, if there is any crash or any problem your 40 gb will suffer not your 160 gb

  3. go with 160gb harddisk.. its better and fater than the old ones ..so upgrade with 160gb harddisk ..you'll get more space for your work..

  4. i prefer to 160 newer drives is faster access the old ones

  5. Hello

In case of HDD,RPM(Rounds per minute) works,so sata is better with 7200rpm either 40gb or 160gb.

Now 40gb SATA no longer exist.only 120gb and 140 gb are availabl(sufficient for home use).

Now SATA HDD are coming with 7230RPM & 7300RPM,but they are expensive than 7200rpm.

U may Buy 120gb HDD or 140gd,it on you, just look at price difference,if minor take 140gb.

  6. Just keep 160 Gb as master and do not use slave drive 40 GB keep it away with OS on it.

Re install 160 Gb with dual boot system windows and Linux

You have three options in case you find your system crashes

use Linux and open all the saved data

use 40 GB HDD as slave and run Windows

Use Windows in Master with recovery disk

in case of Linux use Live CD for running OS
