i would love to become a foster parent or even adopt. unfortunaly i was in the system about 5-6 years ago with Child Protective Service. my kids were in foster care for about 9 months. my husband and i did everything we were supposed to do to get my kids back. my kids have been home for 5 years and doing very well. i am also in school to become social worker. is there any reason why i should not be able to adopt?

  1. I also want to adopt, but according to them I need to move first (we are moving to a new home in two months) and because my DH got a DUI  but that was like many many years ago when he was young! I told the adoption lady this and asked if it would keep us from adopting, and although he owns a business and I have a degree in Child Behavioral Psy. (which I would think makes excellent adoptive parents and we are great parents) (not to toot our own horn) she never answered me! Has not called or written back since then! Anyways it depends on what your children were in foster care for.  Thats what they would go by, but I would say prob. not as my DH's ONE DUI is causing us issues:O

    * I just spoke to an agent and lucky us, his DUI should not keep us from adopting, however with us doing work on the new home it is going to keep us adopting because we wont pass the homestudy...so well we have to wait a year oh well.

  2. What type of relationship did you have with the caseworker in your situation?  If the realtionship was good, why don't you talk to him or her to get some advice?  If not, contact your local agency and talk to someone about this.  They should be able to give you a better idea of whether or not you could foster or adopt.

  3. It might make it hard to adopt and/or foster, but alot will depend upon what happend with your cps case. That is the first thing that they will check is if you have a cps case that is either still open or unresolved.  The best thing would be to contact some agencies and ask them the question. You could also, look at your state site under the laws and codes and see if there is anything there that will prohibit you from adopting. Somethings are law and others are guidelines that they follow. Only the agency can tell you what effect it will have on them being able to approve your homestudy to adopt/foster

  4. if you don't have the right income

  5. Why were your childrenin foster care.... if it was because you were ill and couldn't care for them , but have recovered (excluding drug abuse) then it shouldn't be much of a factor.

If it was because you were neglectful or abusive then I seriously doubt that you'd qualify. Also I'd check to see if you can work as a social worker in the feild you plan on... Anyone can get a degree, but I'd worry if you could actualy work in this area.

It all depends on why your children were out of your home..
