i dont know jack about fishing for salmon or crab, h**l ive never watched deadliest catch. i just heard people talking about the oppurtunities and had to check into this.. i am from texas. the closest i can get is trolling all day with an 18 pack and ribbon fish on the line in the gulf of mexico ten miles out tops. i am 28 years old and i have child support to think about. two kids with an ex that is, needless to say, very unforgiving. i want to get them paid. put food in their bellies. get to good terms with my ex for my kids sake. if anyone on here knows, there are companies that will get me to alaska and put me up to the task of crab or salmon fishing. i dont care about the macho c**p. just my kids. ill shovel **** for my kids. if someone said, hey go to h**l and bring back satans toenail for a million bucks, i would do it. for my kids. here is my email addy kkv11680@live.com

if you know anyway at all to get me on. send me a link. i just wanna work.

  1. In the commercial fishing business it's not really what you know, it's who you know. If you don't personally know anybody in the industry or aren't somehow related to a captain, you'll have a slim chance of getting in. But there is a high turnover rate for greenhorns and if you do manage to get a low-level job on a boat (such as cutting bait), the main thing is that you always pay attention to what you're doing and what's going on around you every single second and never daydream, and remember that you obey the captain as if he is God and never argue with him.

  2. Sometimes an opening will come up and the captain will start picking people that have been waiting on the docks for work.

  3. I think the Logical guy pretty much nailed it as this is primarily a family industry at this point, especially since the end of ' Derby Fishing'  and since most of the seasides communities'  fishing fleets have been reduced by 50 percent or more.  But if you can prove yourself over a period of time, ( Alaska can take its toll on a man and his family, especially over a long, dark, winter, when your at sea most of the time), I don't mean to discourage you but it's a huge commitment for a man with a family, as you will find yourself mostly working with and competing with men that are 18- 30 yrs old.

Best of luck to you my friend and here is a direct link that will put you on a list, if you really want..........................
