Question:

Want to be a track runner but i live in the counrty-side. Would it be ok to run up hills?

I live in the Country-side and i can't make it to a track everyday, but i do some running when i get home each day, but it's in the Country-Side. Would it be ok to run up hilley roads in the Country-Side to practise my ruuning, if i want to be a track runner.

Please Help i really, really want to be a track runner

DEFINITELY!!!  I am a cross country  runner in the fall and a track runner in the spring.  Running up hills would benefit you in sprinting especially because it is building up your muscles more than just running on flat ground!  I live in Houston and so there are no hills for me, but my coach told me that running up stairs benefits a lot in running, and running up a hill is a lot like that!  i hope that helped you!  =)


  2. If you want to compete at 400 metres or longer yes. Herb Elliot, who was one of greatest ever middle distance runners of all time in the world, did train by running up sand hills not on the track. At the time the method was very controversial but it certainly did not do his potential as an athlete any harm. So as you say you can get into track some days, I would say yes. What you propose is OK for any event where you need both speed and stamina training.

  3. Yea, man! Hill sprints are really good for you. Lean forward and pretty much sprint up the hills, and then relax as you coast down them.
