  1. I worked my way through 2 years of College and got a chance to apply to NASA , It turned out great and NASA sent me to school on there equipment. In 12 years I had work my way up to a network trouble shooter. It was great work.

  2. I work as an aviation engineer for the department of defense. Some people I work with went to school at Embry Riddle which is a big aeronautical university in Florida. I went to a state school and still have the same job with less debt. The organization I work for "NavAir" also pays for juniors and seniors to go to college on their dime as long as your willing to work for them after college.

Also try to figure out if you want to work on fixed wing(planes) or rotary wing(helicopters) for a living. There's money in either avenue.

  3. It is more important that you get your undergraduate from a school that is in-state(cheaper), comfortable, and close to family.  Usually any decent state college will do the trick.  Get an undergraduate in mechanical engineering (a specialty undergrad is not necessary and will close doors if you change your mind later) and then, as an accomplished student, apply to a good aeronautical program as a grad student. You'll need a master's anyway in this business.
