Want to buy a ipod tuner for my car but my lighter socket dont work help?

I saw a iPod car tuner at walmart for 50 bucks and you have to plug it into your cars lighter socket but my lighter doesent work, it doesn't heat up. Will it still work if the lighter doesent heat up? If not is there a way I can fix the lighter?

when cigar lighters go the y usually go for two reasons.

1     the lighter itself has a bad element   or

2     the thermal link on the socket melts

borrow something from a friend and try to run it from your socket. that will tell you which of the two possibilities it is.

If its    1

then buzzing. go and buy the sucker.

if its     2 then go to Tandy or radio shack or whatever the version is nearest to you an buy a new one.

Generally its a single nut holding on the live, a push on connector for earth/ground ans a u shaped bracket holding it all to the inside of the dash.

work out how to get access to the rear of the dash and Robert is your mothers brother!!!!

No it won't work because it needs the cigarette lighter socket for an energy source. You can go to an auto electrician and ask him to fix it.

P.S. I have a PSP and I bought a wireless adapter over the cigarette lighter one, I'm not sure but maybe there is an apple one for ipods.
