Question:

Want to connect Sky box to hi-fi?

I have a Panasonic hi-fi system with a 'music port' input, ie. a standard 3.5mm jack that I can use to connect MP3 players to it, and suchlike. I am currently using the connection for my DVD player, so my movies play with fantastic sound through my hi-fi speakers.

However, I have just got Sky with plenty of entertainment, music and movie channels and I'd also like to connect that to my hi-fi so I get excellent sound as well.

The back of the Sky box has the exact same inputs as the back of my DVD player, so I know what cables I need, it's just that my hi-fi only has one music port connection. I wouldn't want to have two cables that I'd need to keep switching over every time I wanted to watch either a DVD or Sky, as my room is huge and I just couldn't be bothered to trek over to the hi-fi all the time!

So is there a cable that exists that would allow me to connect both the Sky box and DVD player to the music port at the same time?

  1. sorry but no. BUT you can buy a input selection box that you can hook up DVD,TV ect to. example is: the box's output goes to your one input on your stereo and then the rest of the gear such as DVD players TVs, ps2 ect, get connected to the box. Radio shack use to sell them at one time..

    some thing like this

there is other methods such as a PRE-AMPLIFIER or Mixer board. but both are analogical for your use and will cost some money.

DO NOT connect both the dvd player and Sky box together under the same input, you may cause damage to either the dvd player or the sky box.

HOW EVER if you have a TV that has a audio output, just do this.

connect the sky box to one of the inputs on the TV, and connect the DVD player to another input on the TV. Then going from the audio output of the TV to your stereo. Problem solved with very little to no money spent.
