Want to get a Spanish visa. How long does it take???

I am from USA and i want to live in Spain, but longer than 3 months. How do i get a visa, how long does it take to get, and which type of visa is the best????

You will need to apply for a Spanish residence card, starting with a residence (long term) visa issued by the nearest Spanish foreign mission.  It is a long, drawn out process.  You may wish to consider a student visa.
