i've heard they escape easily. the only opening in the lid of my tank is where the heater and filter is, but evidently that's enough for it to escape. for those who have fresh water crabs, how do you keep them from escaping? thanks!

btw this is the last question i'll in ask in the fish section today :)

  1. You cannot put a crab in an aquarium. I'm guessing it's the little red claw ones, since those are the ones they sell in pet stores. They need to be able to get out of water.

  2. the ones they sell in pet stores (fiddlers, red claws) are really neat but they DO need air to breathe. So you will have to lower your water level and build some sort of platform they can climb up on.

As long as the platform isn't near the hood, you should be set. Just remember that they can't climb up solid glass.

If your not up for that, I know some people like buying ghost shrimp, other species of shrimp, or one of those neat freshwater lobsters.

Not the same, but cool invertebrates nonetheless

  3. it depends on what type of crab it is.. Check on what your getting.. If it has to be able to get out of water, then dont get one. It will  be fully submerged, because they cant swim. They walk on the bottom of the tank...

If you get one that CAN be underwater 100% of the time, then thats great!

There is no possible way for it to escape.
